  • Blue Moon Art Gallery 18620 Belvidere Road Grayslake (map)

Over the last 25 years, David Dallison has explored and painted the people and landscapes of diverse cultures, such as Italy, Turkey, Viet Nam, France, Russia, Ireland, England, Spain, The Czech Republic, Slovenia, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, India, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Japan, and Cambodia. Encountering exotic locales and diverse cultures through painting has allowed him to observe what is shared and common to much of humanity. We are thrilled to be showing a collection of David’s highly popular watercolor paintings depicting his world-wide travels. “Despite our cultural and political differences and no matter where we call home and what language we speak, we are united by our partnership with nature. My paintings tell the story of my travels and are a celebration of this earth and the places, events, and people that particularly inspire me.” — David Dallison

Laura LaRue is a high school art teacher who works and resides with her family on the northwest side of Chicago. She paints primarily with encaustic wax, incorporating oils, mixed media, and ephemera. Although she has been teaching art for over 20 years, she did not discover the art of encaustic painting until much later. Her current work is an exploration of the push and pull of colors, the contrast between hard and soft edges and mark making in all forms. Using wax as her medium, she adds many layers to emphasize depth and imbed small tokens, papers and other ephemera in order to facilitate the visual metaphor.

David Hinske’s paintings are nationally collected both privately and by public & educational institutions. His work is displayed in permanent collections in TN, MI, HI, and NM and he has shown his work extensively in Memphis, Taos, Santa Fe, Dallas, and Chicago. The Brooks Museum of Art, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Dyersburg State University, the University of West Georgia, and the Taos Center for the Arts have included his work in exhibitions and events. He has been a frequent juror, has been published as an artist, and was director/owner of the Cooper Young Gallery in Memphis. His current collection features the serene beauty and contemplative austerity of trees and tree branches.

David PiIkington is a mastercraftsman woodworker. Says David: “I am drawn to making functional artistic pieces as a way to balance both my creative and logical sides. The beautiful, asymmetrical form of wood provides the perfect canvas and appeals to my sense of creativity. The lathe provides me with a way to exercise my strategic skills and appeals to my logical side. I enjoy looking at a wood blank and figuring out how to gently coax a form from it which accentuates the natural beauty of the grain within. This is especially gratifying when working with woods that have vibrant colors and great contrast.” David will be showing a collection of new candlesticks made from popular and exotics woods perfect for holiday gift giving.

This exhibition runs through November 14 weekends 1-4pm.
