Sally Wille

Sally Wille was born in Beloit WI and moved to Winnetka IL, a Chicago suburb, when she was seven years old. Growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan and spending summers at camp in Michigan on an inland lake gave her a deep appreciation for nature, the outdoors, and its unending landscape.

“Color whets my appetite to paint. The light cast over landscapes inspires me.”

Today Sally works on ‘composed landscapes’ in nature using her memory, imagination, and photos in her studio. She uses watercolor and gouache (an opaque water-based paint) to recreate landscapes with the help of emotions provoked inside her. She simplifies the composition into broad zones, or swaths, of intensified color, resulting in abstractions of nature, which gives her landscapes a distinctive and immediately recognizable character.

Sally’s interest in painting was cultivated during high school with class work and continued while enrolled at The Art Institute of Chicago. She continued her painting practice at The University of Arizona where she completed her BFA degree and post graduate studies at The American Academy of Art in Chicago.

All of the art in Sally’s Blue Moon Collection is available for purchase.
